A Window Left Open for Forgiveness

Posted on at

Sometimes, when you hear devastating news about someone you love, you know what you feel in your heart, but the right words don't come forth or they just don't sound right or the wrong words are spoken. If this happens, don't despair. It is not a relationship that is now lost. Look at it as if a window had been left open for love, compassion and forgiveness to enter.

For the person whom words were spoken, although it is hard, don't take it personally. It is not about you; your illness made others face their own mortality and the decisions that they have made throughout their life. It makes them face things that they don't want to face or they are not yet prepared to face.

The truth is, it hurts their soul to see you have to go through this. They would rather see you happy and enjoying life, doing what you love to do, rather than face your illness.

When others see your strength, it reminds them of their own weakness. So at times, they may remain silent when they are usually outspoken. Deep inside they are thinking that it is not fair that bad things happen to good people and you are the best person that they know. Through their weakness I hope your realize your own strength.

In reality there are people that are so use to other's being there for them that they don't know yet, how to be there for others. With time and prayers, it will help them become less distant and they will grow to appreciate others as others appreciate them.

What do you need? How can I help? These words are among the greatest words you can offer, besides a hug and the words, "I'm there for you." No long speeches or stories of others are needed. Your blessings and prayers go a very long way.

So, if you've said the wrong words before, remember the window is always left open to make amends. What once was can still be mended with gentleness and lots of love.

Relationships can be so strong and yet so very fragile. Sometimes expectations exceed others capabilities. When heart strings are pulled, words and actions become critical. When someone you love hurts, it hurts you too. Sometimes the pain of that is so strong it blurs our thoughts and actions. When that happens, some move forward and some take a step back. But remember, that window is always open for love and understanding to enter. All you have to do is communicate what is in your heart.

Life is a blessing and it is very short and the time goes by way too fast. Reevaluate what you need to; make amends where it is needed. We cannot control time, but we can always renew a relationship that might have been lost.
