Acrobats and grand pianos: Heraion (part 2)

Posted on at

As I came back from the States to Valencia, I started editing the parts we already had shot at Salton Sea.

The problem was I really didn´t know what to shoot next... the plot was getting pretty complicated and I didn´t want to make the viewer get lost with too many conceptual scenes.

While I was thinking about this issues, I passed in front of a very well known piano store in Valencia: Clemente Pianos. For a couple minutes I just stood there, staring at those magnificent instruments... until I got an idea. We would shoot with a grand piano!

I´ve been studying music since I was 3 years old, my love for it is infinite and I thought Heraion could be a great tribute to music, so I talked to the owner of the store and they agreed sponsoring Heraion by letting us use a grand piano from Steinway & Sons.

This video shows how we took the grand piano from the store to the set... What an amazing adventure!

In paralel, I also talked to a couple of acrobats, Natasha Marcano and Adrián Soler, who agreed as well to work on the project, that was going to shoot, as usual, at Llumm Studios.

We started preparing the coreography in order to complete the story while Tono Sanmartín started planning the make up and hair dressing for Natasha and Juan Carlos Serrano (the paintor from Eiénesis, who starred as well in Heraion).

When we brought the grand piano to Llumm, Carlos Gutiérrez did his job as a director of photography amazingly, we had a big problem, and it was that the piano reflected a lot, it was like working with a mirror, so if we didn´t pay attention we could shoot a take with the camera operator being reflected there.

As well, working with acrobatic parts is difficult, because the movements are quick and you have to be careful with that.

Here you can watch a short clipf of how we worked with the acrobats:

Tono had to fix Natasha´s wig in order for her not to have any problems with it doing all the scenes. It was quite difficult, but in 5 hours the shooting was done.

The painter´s dress was created this time by Paola Pucci, from Retal - Reciclaje Creativo.

We had both parts connected but as I put together this part and the Salton Sea one, I felt we had to shoot some new stuff at US with Mahal Style.

So, this winter, they did the new takes in order to complete the main part of Heraion.

The point was that we still had no end!

To be continued...
