Al-Bukhary Mosque , Kedah – Malaysia

Posted on at

Located along Jalan Langgar in Alor Setar, Masjid Al-Bukhary was financed by its namesake, Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary. The mosque is part of the Al-Bukhary Complex, a sprawling complex housing a multitude of public facilities such as a medical centre, a community centre, an old folks’ academy, an orphanage and a learning centre.

The mosque’s beauty encompasses both its exterior and interior. Its design was based on the mosques of Turkey and Iran. It has seven top-shaped blue domes with the main one featuring intricate Arabesque motifs, reminiscent of Uzbek madrasas in Samarkand. The five-layered main archway represents the five pillars of Islam. Within its beautiful compound, before its main entrance, is a stunning reflecting pool featuring Arabesque motifs.

Masjid Al-Bukhary and the Al-Bukhary complex is part of the Al-Bukhary Foundation. Adjacent to the complex is another Al-Bukhary Foundation’s project and a major shopping attraction, the Souq Al-Bukhary.
