BLOG #191: Movies to See

Films to see this May

It's the end of April and soon the merry month of May is upon us.  It is befitting to read an article in BBC about May.  I happened to come across this list by BBC about Films to see this May.  The list included:

  • Far from the Madding Crowd.  This is an adaptation of the classic novel by Thomas Hardy. Carey Mulligan stars in this classic movie.
  • Tomorrowland stars George Clooney and Dr. House (Hugh Laurie).  This is another "futuristic" film.
  • Mad Max:  Fury Road. Tom Hardy stars in this film made famous by Mel Gibson.  What would be different this time or the same?  Watch and find out.
  • I am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story.  This is an interesting documentary about Carroll Spinney - the man behind Big Bird.  Some of you may not know Big Bird or have never heard of Sesame Street but for those who can relate to Sesame Street, then you may want to see this.
  • Spy stars Melissa McCarthy.  I cannot remember the last movie of Melissa McCarthy that I watched but I know she is funny. Rose Byrne also stars in this movie.  It would be interesting to see another spy film comedy.
  • Good Kill stars Ethan Hawke.  This tells the story of a former Air Force pilot fighting Taliban by using computer controlled drones.  It may be full of action but it is also full of drama.  How long can you hold your emotions?
  • When Marnie Was There.  This is a Japanese animated film released in 2014 but only being released worldwide this year.  This tells of a tomboy who became friends with mysterious Marnie.
  • Slow West is a cowboy movie filmed in Scotland and New Zealand.  It is a film about a 17-year-old boy in search for the one he loves.  Cowboy and love, anyone?

Among the list above, Tomorrowland and Good Kill interests me the most.

Although I complain about how unreal films are these days, I have to admit that I am still entertained with all the CGI and other effects movies have these days.  It shows how creative the mind can get.  Tomorrowland promises a sci-fi movie set in the future.  Also, it would be interesting to see George Clooney and Hugh Laurie pair.

Good Kill on the other hand touches a fraction of the minds of those who go to war and Ichoosing better characters to play and it would be nice to see him play a man caught in his emotions that he cannot express.

Below are the trailers of Tomorrowland and Good Kill.
