NEW YORK, October 12, 2010 – Film Annex, online film distribution platform and Web TV Network, in collaboration with www.JudoArts.com, will be one of the sponsors at this year’s New York Open Judo Championship, which is being held at Hunter College’s West Building on Sunday, October 17th, 2010. The New York Judo Open is known to be one of the top judo tournaments in the United States, hosting some of the best judokas from around the world.

In addition to making a financial contribution to the event via the revenues raised by its Web TV network, Film Annex will also be filming the tournament and producing a documentary about the New York Judo Open and the athletes participating in this outstanding event. The Film Annex production team will be filming the matches and conducting interviews with the athletes. This year’s participants come from over twenty countries, including Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, England, Israel, Spain, Haiti, Morocco, Poland, Ukraine, and USA amongst others.

The documentary, once completed, will be shown on www.JudoArts.com, a web channel that Film Annex created to broadcast and promote the sport of Judo and other martial arts like Sambo and Jujitsu. The web channel showcases professional footage from judo tournaments as well as interviews with world famous judokas, coaches, and sports administrators. Francesco Rulli, the president of Film Annex and a judoka himself is excited to promote and sponsor the event. “We created www.JudoArts.com to raise awareness for the sport of Judo and sponsor individual atheletes. We donate a portion of the online advertising revenues generated on this web channel to organizations like the New York Open Judo. It is our mission that we continue our efforts to provide official sponsorships for national and international sports events like this one,” said Rulli.

The tournament begins at 8am with the finals scheduled to start around 5pm. The event is open to the public, and the tickets can be purchased for $20 at the door. About Judo

Judo debuted as an official Olympic sport in 1964 and is practiced by millions of people throughout the world today. The discipline of Judo is a Japanese martial art and combat sport that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Best known for stunning throws, Judo also involves much grappling on the ground like wrestling, using controlled holds, pins and arm locks.

Judo, translated as "gentle way," teaches balance, leverage and flexibility in performing throws and other skills, and helps to develop complete body control and fast reflexive action. Skill, technique and timing, rather than brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in this sport. Worldwide, over 20 million people practice judo, with all age groups, both sexes and disabled persons all able to participate in learning and practicing in the sport.

Judo develops self-discipline and respect for oneself and others, and helps teach self-confidence, concentration and leadership skills. It's no coincidence that several world leaders have also studied Judo, including Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, former Prime Minister of Canada Pierre Trudeau, former U.S. Senator of Colorado, Olympian Ben Campbell, and former President Theodore Roosevelt, as well as many celebrity judo practitioners, including director Guy Ritchie, actors Chuck Norris, James Cagney and Peter Sellers.
