Film Annexe is changing the world of education in Afghanistan

Posted on at

Film Annexe provides a fresh perspective to the situation in Afghanistan through its initiatives in the country. By investmenting in education and social media, including 40 Internet Classrooms and 400 computers to connect 160,000 Afghan children, Film Annexe has utilised corporate backing to bring effective change to the lives of hundreds of citizens.

Film Annexe’s initiatives in Afghanistan are aided by USAID as well as several corporate donors, and has engaged many financial leaders in its ‘Digital Media’ thought leaders series, to discuss the project. Adam Frieman, an entrepreneur with 27 years of financial industry experience said about the project:

“Without education as a base, you cannot expect a people to take control of their destiny”.

This is the essence of the project, allowing, through the facilities that Film Annexe is building in Afghanistan, for the communities they serve to develop independently and in time, boost their own wages and prospects. Steve Brazell, the CEO of Hitman Inc highlights the flow-on effects of the project in his interview, especially in regards to the current US ‘War on Terror’:

“For every dollar we invest in educating youth in Afghanistan, we will save ten in fighting terrorism”.

Social media is a key aspect of the Film Annexe initiative. By providing the infrastructure and the platform, Film Annexe hopes to expose the Afghani people to the rest of the world, and in turn, expose the complex issues of this region, which are so often reduced to news broadcasts about war. As Fereshteh Forough says in her interview with Film Annexe about Afghanistan’s future:

“[The Afghan people] just want to…communicate with other people outside [the] country”.

Film Annexe’s initiatives in Afghanistan will facilitate this information sharing, and pave new methods for community development in the nation for the future.
