Afghanistan, for the new year let's collectively make a commitment to stop Child Marriages--

your silence can make a difference not only in the life of a child bride but the generations of child brides in the future

, a perpetuating cycle that will leave its illness in our history, in our culture: we will be a diseased society as a whole.

Let's begin 2015 with a promise to protect the daughters of Afghanistan as our daughter, as our sister, as a human being.

Let's break the custom of trading her like a goat for our own benefit. Let's break from this cycle of dehumanizing our

girls in such brutal way and allow her the space to blossom into an autonomous woman, into her natural role--

the mother of the Nation. Let's promise to stop this illness from perpetuating to future generations.

With these promises, I pray that we come together as one people to uphold the honor of our daughters, the children of our nation.
