Insulting the Prophet Muhammad on Facebook, Blogger Sentenced to Death

Tehran - A blogger or writer online pages in Iran sentenced to death because of insulting the Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.

Tehran Criminal Court judge, said Khorasani, a blogger named Soheil Arabi and was proven guilty of insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

He is said to have admitted to having pinned and maintain eight Facebook pages that contain insults against the Prophet Newsletter.

Arabi was previously arrested along with his wife in November 2013 and by the Revolutionary Guards Corps agent (IRGC) of Iran's Revolutionary Guard or Army over alleged insult to the Prophet Mohammed. The wife was later released, while Arabi detained in Evin Prison.

"He was arrested for insulting the Prophet without thinking matured and in bad psychological condition," said an anonymous source, reported by The Independent on Saturday (20/09/2014).

"But the way the arrest was illegal apparatus. They suddenly go it alone in the room of the accused. He and his wife were arrested, and photos as well as goods confiscated," added the source.

Arabi then tried and sentenced to death. Pursuant to Article 262 of the Penal Code of Iran, citizens of the Prophet Muhammad will be executed.

However, Article 264 states if the offender committed the act in anger or by accident, then the caning sentence commuted to 74 times.

But according to an anonymous source, the judges still give the death penalty for insulting Arabi even when he is known in bad psychological condition. "Unfortunately, even though the article says so, the judge still sentenced to death," he said.

Arabi had a chance to appeal the death sentence related insults to the Prophet Muhammad, on Saturday, September 20th today.
