Toni Lettner Visits the AC On December 6th and 8th, two time NY Open Champion, Toni Lettner ran the workout.Toni won the 73kg weight class title in 2007 and 2008.

He demonstrated his two signature techniques: Sumi Gaeshi and Sankaku Jime. Toni’s sumi gaeshi begins by breaking the opponent’s grip and attacking from the side. He then positions himself for Ouchi Gari or Sumi. He demonstrated three different variations of this technique.

Toni demonstrated Sankaku techniques that begin from the top as opposed to the bottom. In one variation, Uki is on his stomach and Tori attacks by wedging his knee between uki’s elbow and chest. Tori then step forward with his other leg and places his foot just forward of uki’s head. Tori rolls to his side, taking uki with him and applies the Sankaku.

In addition to his amazing judo techniques, Toni gave us a great workout beginning with a very impressive warm-up that included gut wrenching core exercises.

After Wednesday’s workout, Toni was treated to dinner in the Tap Room. Thanks Toni.

Anthony Vennitti was presented with his First Place medal and prize money in last month’s Dallas Invitational.

Founded in 1868, the New York Athletic Club can boast of a unique history. The Club's founding premise was to bring structure to a sporting environment that was lacking in organization and uniformity of measurement. Quickly, the NYAC organized the first US championships in boxing, wrestling and outdoor track and…
