Basic things about movies

'Devil's Advocate' was released in 1997. It is American supernatural horror movie directed by Taylor Hackford, and written by Jonathan Lemkin and Tony Gilroy.
Main roles in this movie are playing Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino and Charlize Theron.

This movie has very strong message, and everybody should see it. It i about young man who is ready to do everything to be successful. He would even sell his soul to the Devil, or maybe he would not?

Why is this movie special?

Most movies about advocates involve selling your soul to the Satan. In this movie Satan takes more dialogue than lawyer. This movie is showing us how people can forget everything what they have when they want to have something bigger.

And what is bigger than love?

Is it life?

It is fame?

Is it money?

No. It is vanity.

Vanity is bigger then everything. It is taking everything you have, and only what it can bring is feeling. One very, very special feeling. When you 'feed' your vanity you feel untouchable., you feel powerful, you feel like a God. Can one man really let himself to feel like a God?

Vain man is ready to do everything to 'feed' his vanity. He is making big steps, and he never looks behind.

But, be careful, there are moments when you need someone who really loves you. And maybe, you left that person behind you. Maybe it is too late. And maybe your vanity is not enough to you.

Maybe there is some Devil somewhere who is laughing and waiting for your soul.

What do we really need? Do we need everything what we want to have? Of course we do not. Human being always wants more and more.

This movie will show you what is really important. This movie is going to teach you some very important things about people and about yourself.

Best quotations

This movie is full of great quotations, and those are my favorite.

Vanity, definitely my favorite sin.

John Milton (Devil himself) told this at the end of the movie. Vanity is definitely the worst sin, and because of that it is Devil's favorite one. Vain man can destroy whole world. And vanity can destroy a man. That is the point of this movie. We need to realize what do we need, what we do not need, and what is most important, we need to learn what is too much for us.

We can not have everything, because we can not handle that. Some things are just too big for us, and we need to know that.

Every person needs to learn how to stop before it is too late.

Let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He is a prankster. Think about it. He gives man instincts. He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does He do, I swear for His own amusement, his own, private, cosmic gag reel, He sets the rules in opposition. It is the goof of all time. Look but do not touch. Touch but do not taste. Taste but do not swallow. Ahaha. And while you are jumping from one step to next, what is he doing? He is laughing. He is a SADIST. He is an absentee landlord. Worship that? Never!

In this one John is criticizing God. But, you know some rules need to be set. You can not swallow everything what you can taste, you can not taste everything what you can touch, you can not touch everything you can see. Not because of the God, but because of yourself. As I said before, you can not have everything you want to, because you do not need everything what you want to have.

I only set stage. You pull your own strings.

This is so true! Devil can set the stage, but it is up to you to decide what are you going to act. Are you a good person? If you are, you will stay good no matter what happens around you.

Freedom, baby... is never having to say you are sorry.

You do not have to. If you are sorry, you should say that. It can fix a lot of things that are destroyed by your fault. But, if you do not feel sorry, you should not say that you are. It is up to you.

John: It is your wife. She is sick, she needs you. She needs to come first. Ah, wait a minute, wait a minute. You mean the possibility of leaving this case has never even entered your mind?

Kevin: You know what scares me? I quit the case, she gets better...and I hate her because of that. I do not want to resent her, John. I'we got a winner here. I've got to solve this. Just put it behind me. Get it done. Then put all my energy into her.

John: (impressed) I stand corrected.

It is not easy to impress the Devil. This quotations is showing us how far Kevin's vanity goes. He is ready to left everything behind, just because he want to be a winner. Kevin is a winner and he is focused to winning. That is all.

Taglines of "Devil's Advocate"

The newest attorney at the world's most powerful law firm has never lost a case. But he is about yo lose his soul.

And what is more important, a case or soul?

Losing is a very important part of our lives. The one who has never lost does not know how to win. You need to fall, if you want to stand. You need to cry, if you wanna laugh. You need to be sad, if you want to be happy.

Everyone can sell a soul. Everyone has it. But, are you ready to live without your soul?

Evil has it winning ways.

As I said before, devil only sets the stage, it is up to you to decide how are you going to act. When you want to leave something behind, think twice about it. If it seems to you, that you are going to need that in the future, do not just leave it.
