Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim differs with the widespread notion of Australian wicket and said that the nature of wicket in World Cup will not be too swing or too seam-friendly but batsmen will have to do the bulk of works for respective team’s victory.  “Many of us are telling about the wicket that would be pace-friendly. But I personally feel that the wicket in this mega event will not be too much swing or seaming-friendly. It might be bouncy but that would be normal. And It’ll not so hard for batsmen to put runs,” said Mushfiqur Rahim yesterday.
“If we could make our habituation to play side shots, I think, scoring will be too easy for us all. But batsmen will have to work the bulk of the works. In that aspect, we’re practicing by machine along with normal net training. Actually we are trying our best what we have resources for it,” Rahim said this at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after their practice session.
The Test skipper said that they want to keep their continuation as the team so they could start the 2015 year very well.
“We didn’t start well but finished the year very well. We’ll try to start the next year very well. If we can play well as a team, it will bring positive result for us. I’ll try to play well. Along with that, we’ll try to perform well as the team,” Mushfiq thinks.
The diminutive man said that the matches of the premier league is important for their World Cup preparation as they have no international matches before the mega event.
“We’ve finished a big tournament though it was a home series. We have no international matches prior to the World Cup. Premier League is the most important games of Bangladesh. We’re getting to play some competitive matches as preparation. I think, those who will play good cricket here they’ll have confidence of playing the World Cup,” the 27-year-old singled out.
“We’re going to Australia ahead of the competition to cope with the condition. We’ll play two practice matches, out of the ICC approved two warm-up matches. We’ve not too much time in hand. But if we could utilise our time properly then so many problem will not be raised in front of us,” he added.
The lad from Bogra said that everybody like him want to perform in the World Cup to make it ‘memorable’ for them.
“Everybody wants to do well in such a big event. When a string of players will perform for a team then the team could do well. We played well last three years. But it’s past now. The New Year will start with the World Cup. We’ll try to play well so that we could be memorable for it amongst people. We’re trying to give this message to all. We are prepared not only individually but also team-wise to show our grit and character,” Mushfiq opined.
“It does not create any pressure on me. Sometimes I think I will not make run. But I feel better when I could contribute for the team amid additional pressure. Hopefully I could be consistent. We could be overcome our goal as the team,” the wicketkeeper turned batsman insisted.
“It’s very difficult to say. It is not too many times that I’ve helped the team for winning. Personally I passed a good year. But if I say as the team we played well in the last home series against Zimbabwe. We’ve come back from a worse situation, which is much-needed for us to return. It’s not so easy equation to win with 8-0. I feel delight to contribute for winning the series,” Mushfiqur Rahim said this in response to a query.
“I’ve of course personal preparation for the World Cup. Recent matches of Australia are being broadcast in television regularly. We’re getting the idea of the wicket condition though we haven’t played in that condition since many days. I played there in 2006 for Bangladesh Under-19.”
