My Honest Opinion: Steven Spielberg

Posted on at

As a huge movie goer and admirer, I always looks for the big action along with a good story. Steven Spielberg has always been able to deliver the best of both worlds, in my opinion. Writer, producer, and director, Spielberg has brought great stories to life such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, and E.T.
Those movies were some of his classics that really helped make Spielberg’s career. “His film Jaws (1975) was the first to earn more than $100 million, a record he surpassed first with E.T. (1983) and then with Jurassic Park (1993), which grossed more than $900 million.” (Steven Spielberg, 2013) No one will ever forget those movies because they were re-defining the movie industry in their time.
Jaws released in 1975, was a story of a huge great white shark who decides to make his new home off shore of the island community Amity and terrorizes the locals who live there. It is up to the police chief, a pro fisherman, and scientist to find and eliminate the shark’s threat. When Jaw’s was released to the public, a new fear of the water and ocean spread across the nation. People didn’t want to swim fearing they would be attacked and eaten by a shark.
Jurassic Park opened our eyes to an old new world. Spielberg brought dinosaurs back to life in the movie. The story follows a couple of paleontologists who get invited to an island where genetic research has progressed and successfully brought dinosaurs to life. Once there, the park starts to shut down and things go haywire and crazy. Dinosaurs escape their confinements and prey on the unlucky guests.
In E.T., Spielberg brought us the story of an alien who gets left behind here on earth and befriends a young lonely boy. The boy makes it his goal to help E.T. get home to his family before the government can get their hands on him and use him as a test subject. Families everywhere fell in love with this heart felt story about an unlikely and unworldly friendship.
Spielberg has never been afraid to make stories come to life in a big way. He broke the mold with the above-mentioned three stories. His determination to put things on the big screen that have not been seen before grabs my attention. I give the man great respect. He does not shy away from things that people say cannot be done.
Recently Spielberg has announced he will be working on a series called HALO based on the extremely popular game. This is a very risky move considering the games popularity and following. A risk many producers and directors turned down a couple years ago when they were asked about making the game into a movie. This is why I admire Spielberg. He breaks the mold and takes risks, which is something I want to do when I get into the industry.
