National Cherry Popover Day

Posted on at

Today, September 1st, is National Cherry Popover Day.

Popovers are similar to the traditional English dish, the Yorkshire pudding, which often accompanies the traditional English roast with gravy.

Popovers are an American version of the Yorkshire pudding, and are a light roll made from an egg batter. Although usually hollow, cherry popovers have a cherry filling. Other fillings can be used. Whether the dish is sweet or savoury mostly depends on what filling is used. The earliest known reference to popovers dates back to 1850.
