Potassium is an alkali metal has silvery white color in pure form. It is highly soluble in water. There was no difference between potassium and sodium before 1702. It was first isolated in pure form through electrolysis. It is very reactive in pure form and rapidly oxidizes in air.

                        

It does not react with number of mineral oil or kerosene. It was first isolated by Sir Humphry Davy in 1802 by electrolysis.

                                

Potassium is essential nutrient for human body. Its deficiency creates serious problems. Some of important role of potassium in human body is as follows.
