Poverty in Afghanistan

Poverty is defined as "State or condition in which a person or community lacks the financial resources and essentials to enjoy a minimum standard of life and well-being that's considered acceptable in society"

With 36% of its population below poverty line, Afghanistan is ranked second to Bangladesh on list of poorest country. Country with more than three decades of war resulting in destroyed industrial setup and mass exodus to neighbor countries has resulted in increased poverty in Afghanistan.Poverty is higher in rural areas compare to urban areas in Afghanistan.

Rural areas are more subjected to poverty compare to urban areas where poverty rate is low compare to other areas.Poverty rate is 29% in Kabul compare to overall 36% poverty rate in Afghanistan.Government of Afghanistan has failed to initiate projects to facilitate people and provide employment opportunities for poor people.Three decades of war has destroyed country industrial setup which need to be reformed and should be put in operation.

Afghanistan economy has seen ups and downs in recent years since international investors are not investing in Afghanistan because of insecurity, limited investment opportunities.International fund has given some hope but still efforts are needed to overcome economic challenges being faced. Poor economic condition is resulting in growing poverty.

Karzai government along with international donors have initiated projects to provide people with employment so that they can earn livelihood. but still distance has to be made to overcome poverty issues being faced by large number of people.Poverty is giving rise to some serious issues faced by society that include one of major problem of education.Parents are forcing their kids to work rather than study just to earn money for their family.Growing poverty is serious issue and it is need of time to work on this issue.
