There are a lot of festivals (matsuri ) during the cherry blossom (sakura) season in Tokyo and Japan. One of the most largest and most popular in Tokyo is the Bokutei Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) at Sumida Koen (park), near Asakusa, along the banks of the Sumida River.

This park lies in both Sumida and Taito . The Sumida side contains a Japanese garden , once part of the feudal residence of the powerful Mitoclan , that is renown for its CHERRY BLOSSOMS .

Within the park are USHIJIMA SHRINE , STONE LANTERN , and two MEMORIAL STELE . One is dedicated to the planting of CHERRY TREES , and another is a poem ( shoki no uta ) by Fujita Tohko .
