"The Butler" Wins Box-Office for 3rd Straight Weekend; "One Direction" Rocks!

Posted on at

One Direction almost beat "Lee Daniels' The Butler," but in the end, Oprah won!  "The Butler,' starring the fantastic Forrest Whitaker in the title role, is the first film to win the box-office race for three straight weekends.  Although "One Direction: This Is Us" won the 3-day weekend, "The Butler" ultimately took the top spot for the 4-day weekend.  For the 3-day weekend, "One Direction" sold $15.7 M worth of tickets compared to "The Butler's" $14.8 M box-office take.  But for the 4-Day Holiday total, "The Butler" made $20 M versus "One Direction's" $18 M.  Still, "One Direction" did surprisingly well for a concert documentary.
