Uploaded on Friday 21 December 2012

DESCRIPTION

In this episode of The Faces of Fashion series we sit down with Henry Welt, the Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship Department for the fashion and design industries, at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. The Entrepreneurship Department began in 2011. In addition to being a department chair, Professor Welt has also developed a course titled “Global Marketing for Global Luxury Brands.”

Prior to becoming the Chairperson of Entrepreneurship, Professor Welt came from a law background, where he was a corporate lawyer with a heavy emphasis on Intellectual Property. Amongst some of his many achievements, certain highlights include the CEO of Van Cleef and Arpels, Inc. and the Executive Chairman of the Board at Paloma Picasso Group. He has also had a variety of experiences with start-up firms.

Prof. Welt hopes that his students will take away with them upon graduation the “can-do” optimistic mindset as well as the skillset of identifying opportunities where people see problems, decide if an opportunity can be a business, and if so, have the knowledge to develop a set of metrics to make that business idea happen.
