In April 1945, Bernd Freytag von Loringhoven left the Führerbunker in Berlin 24 hours before Hitler´s suicide. He also survived the cauldron of Stalingrad and witnessed the assassination attempt of the 20th of July 1944 against Hitler. Bernd Freytag is my stepfather. How can he explain his life story to me? The film is shot at the Baltic Sea, Berlin and Munich and employees plentiful archive material of crucial events of the German history of the 20th century.
