Ella the Engineer is a cartoon series to encourage young kids, specifically girls, to pursue careers in coding, science, engineering. Support the project by contributing to our fundraising campaign! http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ella-the-engineer-pilot-episode

ELLA IN SHORT

We need more female engineers and coders, period. There is a pervasive lack of female applicants in software and engineer roles for which technology companies are posting. We also noticed a significant gap in the amount of female engineers we had working in the industry. We figured it was not a recruiting issue, but something much larger and more up stream in the professional cycle.

What we found, basically watching the patterns of our own kids, is that there is no female hero in cartoons today that solves problems with an engineering or software mind. In most cases as we dug deeper, we found that in many cases, young girls lost or had no interest in engineering or software.

In partnership and support with Girl Develop It and it's board president Alanna Gombert, we decided to create Ella the Engineer. What we intend to do with Ella is to promote a female lead hero and expose young kids to software coding and engineering at a very young age. Much like what other organizations are doing, but much further upstream in a child's life. We created the concept to help drive more interest in this area, so that future generations of girls (and boys) grow up with at least some knowledge and interest in engineering.

WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT YOU GET

Simply, we need money for a pilot episode. As we learned quickly, though there is interest in the concept by many people inside and outside the technology industry, we cannot walk up to Disney or Nickelodeon and just present an idea. We need experts in this field who can take the concept, build storyboards, look at the 360 degree marketing potential, consider offline gaming, and build Ella's first episode.

If we hit our goal, we believe we can make a series of cartoons and launch on a major network. In fact, as folks donate their hard earned cash to our efforts, we plan to reward them with Ella merchandise, a shout out in the first episode and depending on amount, an opportunity for their kid to show up in a future episode of Ella the Engineer.

If we don't reach the fund goal as listed, we will take all the funds provided and donate them to Girl Develop It, so they can continue their efforts to teach girls how to code.

THE IMPACT

Imagine you give a young girl an opportunity that had not been presented to her before. A path to a career that is both rewarding and successful. A place where it was rare for her to play. A place where the opportunities seem to be endless these days.

Now imagine that you have impacted the world by helping to foster a workforce of highly skilled, creative, imaginative and successful female engineers. They can lead technology companies, build their own, work in teams and all because they had a hero in Ella.
