Monks of Mellonwah

Forming just over three years ago, Sydney based alternative rockers Monks of Mellonwah have achieved some mammoth milestones. Fresh from performing at the LA music awards at the Avalon theatre, Los Angeles, where they picked up the ‘Best International Rock Artist’ award, the Monks are now recording the first four tracks of their debut album with legendary producer Keith Olsen (Ozzy Ozborne, Fleetwood Mac, Santana) set for release in early 2013. They are also on the brink of commencing their very first tour of the USA, covering venues across California’s West Coast and New York over November and December including the iconic ‘Whiskey a Go-Go’ and ‘Mercury Lounge.’

The Monks of Mellonwah draw on a number of differing influences from the past and the present, including the soundscape prowess of Pink Floyd, the free-natured blues of Led Zeppelin, and the blazing modern sound of Muse, creating a masterful blend yet unique sound, really honing in on those big, powerful moments every listener longs to hear.

Since forming, the Monks have produced two highly praised EP’s, ‘Stars Are Out’ and ‘Neurogenesis,’ and music videos for most popular songs ‘Swamp Groove’ and ‘Neverending Spirit.’ Neverending Spirit, a highly emotive number from ‘Neurogenesis,’ has most notably been played on rotation on MTV Networks.

Apart from recording and travelling to the USA, the Monks have also become very familiar with their local music scene in Australia. They have played at celebrated venues such as the Oxford Art Factory, the Metro Theatre and the Grace Darling, supporting popular Australian artists such as Thirsty Merc and You Am I. The Monks have also spread their music across community radio throughout Australia, including Triple J.

Both Stars Are Out and Neurogenesis can be found on iTunes and most CD retailers including JB HiFi.
