Son of a Greek father and a Spanish mother, Jorge Tsabutzoglu was born
in Malaga in 1975. He’s a graduate in Educational Psycology ad is Master in
Communication, Information and Audiovisual Business Management by the
University of Barcelona, getting the year after the completion of his studies to work in coproduction with TV3 and Canal Sur TV, two of the most important TV channels of Spain, to produce the documentary "Students for freedom" (“Estudiantes por la libertad”).

His first short film "Despecho" (“Spite”) conducted in a completely self-taught, was a finalist in the national competition Certamen Sala 2 Dos Hermanas 2003, and served as the basis for learning and to establish his first contacts with the media. It was at this short film’s premiere where he
met Joaquin Asencio, producer and co-writer of The Last Wedding, beginning a
close friendship and professional relationship.

He opted for the documentary format in his second project Buscando un
Respiro (Searching for a Breather), for which he got financing from Instituto
Andaluz de la Juventud, and with which he partcipated in various renowned
Spanish festivals such as the 30th Huelva’s Iberoamerican Cinema Festival, the 12th Cataluña’s International Festival of Cinema and Environment, and the III Sobrarbe’s Ethnographic Documentary Festival (Huesca). He then founded his own production company and started to combine the duties of a screenwriter, director and executive producer.

Alternating shorts and documentaries, in 2009, he won the Espiello
Pirineos Prize for best documentary at the VII Espiello Ethnographic
Documentary Film Festival (Huesca, Spain) for one of his last works, Towns
Without Road. This documentary was coproduced by Lemendu films, Joaquin
Asencio’s company (winner of international awards with its short films "The Censor" and "Straw Men") and Nanuk PA, one of the most important audiovisual companies in Aragon (Spain).
