12 years later: Celebrating learning in Afghanistan

Posted on at

This month marked the 12th Anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.  As the war continues in this country, the best way to honor the dead and encourage the peace is to highlight the people living and rebuilding their land.  According to the American game plan, their troops will be fully out in 2014. Currently, there is a transition period underway between the outside armed forces and the newly developed Afghanistan Army.  Hopefully, this transition will bring some peace to the region as the people go forward after nearly a decade at war.

The 4th president of the United States, James Madison, said “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”  This building of schools is a testament of the people taking control of their lives.  While it’s true, they have a way to go. The fact that they have started shows them putting their own destiny in their own hands.
