Oatmeal

Oatmeal is not just a healthy food source, it is also an effective skincare treatment. In fact, it has been used for thousands of years as a natural remedy for dry skin due to its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, oxidative, and cleansing properties.  Here are a couple of ways you can integrate oatmeal into your skincare routine.

Oatmeal bath

To prepare an oatmeal bath, you will need to grind a cup of oatmeal as finely as possible. Scatter the finely ground oatmeal in a tub with running water. Carefully swirl it into the water using your hand for even distribution. Soak in it for about 15 to 20 minutes. Don't forget to pat yourself dry after getting out of the bath. You can do this up to twice a week or more depending on how dry your skin is. If you have a severely dry skin, you may want to consult with a dermatologist first before starting with your oatmeal bath.

Oatmeal scrub

To make an oatmeal scrub, you will need:

  • 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/4 cup of milk

What you need to do:

  1. Put the oatmeal in a clean bowl.
  2. Warm the milk in a saucepan then add it to the oatmeal.
  3. Mix the milk and oatmeal together thoroughly.
  4. After a few minutes add in the honey and mix them well together.
  5. Apply the mixture on the face.
  6. After 10 minutes, massage it in a scrubbing motion using your wet fingertips.
  7. Remove the face pack and wash your face thoroughly.

You can use this face scrub/mask once or twice a week.

Fruits

Fresh fruits are not only delicious and healthy, but they also make good ingredients for face packs. Take for example these 7 fruits listed below.

Watermelon

Everyone knows that watermelon has high water content. But, did you know that it also contains many vitamins that are good for the skin? This is why its juice can be used as an ingredient for a face mask to help treat dry skin.

To make watermelon face mask, you will need:

  • 1-2 tablespoons watermelon juice.
  • 1 teaspoon honey.

What you need to do:

  1. Combine the honey and watermelon juice in a clean bowl.
  2. Apply it on your face.
  3. Rinse it off with water after 10 minutes.

This face pack will leave your skin hydrated and moisturized. Additionally, the antioxidants in this fruit help repair damaged skin while protecting it from the harmful UV rays of the sun. You can extract the watermelon juice beforehand but freshly extracted is still the best. Do this twice a week for best results.

To make a pineapple face mask, you will need.

  •  1-2 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey or few drops of olive oil

What you need to do:

  1. Combine the pineapple juice together with the honey or olive oil.
  2. Apply the mixture to your face.
  3. Rinse it off after 20 minutes with cool water.
  4. Pat skin dry.

For best results, you can do this once or twice a week.

Banana is another fruit that can bring instant relief from dry skin. This is mainly due to the fact that it contains moisturizing properties. It also has anti-wrinkling properties that are very helpful since dry skin is more prone to developing wrinkles and fine lines.

To make a banana face mask, you need:

  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

What you need to do:

  1. Mash the banana and add in the coconut oil.
  2. Mix together until the mixture becomes paste-like.
  3. Apply evenly on the face.
  4. Rinse with cold water after 20 minutes.

You can use this face mask once or twice a week to ensure that your skin stays hydrated.
