Last week I had a short trip to Washington DC for participating in American University of Afghanistan ceremony. There were many people around who were involved with Afghanistan specially in education sector. Among all the guests the host for that night was Lara Logan, who is a television and radio journalist, and war correspondent. She is the chief foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, and a correspondent for CBS's 60 Minutes.
I found a chance to speak with her about how I watch 60 Minutes videos each week and write about them as my own perspective related to Afghanistan issues. She had a great experience being in Afghanistan and interviewed a Taliban commander, who spoke about a growing relationship between al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
I am going to invite her to our office to interview about her stories and experience working in Afghanistan as a female journalist being in a war zone and faced with many challenges.
The concept and philosophy of 60 Minutes " unique style of reporter-centered investigation" was well represented by major thought leaders attending the event including Rajiv Shah, Ambassador Crocker and Ambassador Jawad; Lora Logan was the ideal host for the event and it further stimulated my investigative instinct; I am now working on follow up meetings and interviews with each person; as each person deserve its own episode on The Afghan Perspective.
Thinking about Lara Logan and her courage to go and prepare report in a war zone is admirable. She is a great role model for those Afghan girls who are interested to pursue their future career as journalist. This is the power of social media that gives a woman this ability and skill to go to Afghanistan and create documentaries and doing interviews.
