Avengers: Age of Ultron movie review; The annihilation of mankind by artificial intelligence: Image edited by Docxdrl on Bitlanders

Let me start by saying that I am a marvel Fanboy and a comic book nerd. And with Bitlanders running the Artificial intelligence theme blogging, I figured writing a movie review about Avengers: Age of Ultron would be great.

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner create a program for Earth’s Peacekeeping called Ultron without informing the rest of the team. Things didn’t go as planned because the program became hostile. And it’s left for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to stop the villainous artificial intelligence (AI) Ultron from enacting its terrible plan of global annihilation.

As a fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I hold the first Ironman, Captain America: The First Avengers,   Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok and Captain America Winter Soldier. The introduction of a killer artificial intelligence in the mix brings more complexity to the franchise.

That being said, Avengers:  The Age of Ultron does give me the chills. Would the artificial intelligence era lead us to something like Ultron in the future? Would mankind be extinct by his creation? Or could man and his creation co-exist together?

In the spirit of protection, Tony Stark created Ultron to make the world a better place for all mankind. Unfortunately, Ultron believes that peace can only be achieved with humanity extermination.

The movie short story

The Avengers, Earth’s Mightiest hero's raid a Hydra outpost in Sokovia, where Hydra number one thug Baron Wolfgang von Strucker has been experimenting on humans using Loki sceptre. The experiments were only successful in the Maximoffs twins. (Pietro and Wanda Maximmoff)

During the avenger's raid, Wanda  Maimmoff who has telekinetic abilities and can manipulate minds implants a fear-filled future in the mind of Tony Stark where he killed all members of the Avengers team while he was retrieving Loki sceptre.

Back at the Avengers HQ formerly known as Stark Tower, Bruce and Tony discovered an artificial intelligence within the sceptre used by Loki and secretly used the AI to jump-start Starks peacekeeping program called Ultron.

After many failed attempts, they left the program under the care of J.A.V.I.S and headed for a victory party. The programs awaken and believe that the future of the   world is totally human annihilation

The peace of our time

To achieve its objectives, Ultron kills J.A.V.I.S and takes over a damaged Iron man suit. Ultron became sentient and use the internet to escape but not before taking Loki sceptre with him.

Ultron went back to Strucker old lab and use the resources there to build an army of robot drones not before killing Strucker in prison. The sentient AI recruits the Maximoff twins into his army and went to the base of an arms dealer called Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) to acquire Vabranium

While acquiring Wakanda Vabranium, Wanda Maximoff subdues all the avengers with the exception of Barton and Tony Stark. Hulk went on a rampage in a nearby town but was stop by Stark using the Hulk-Buster armour.

The avengers where backlashed by the world after the hulk and Ironman left the neighbouring village where Ultron acquired Wakanda Vabranium in ruins.

Ultron forces Dr Helen Cho to use her synthetic tissue technology together with the vabranium to create a new body for him. The sentient AI started uploading himself into the synthetic body and Wanda was able to get a read on the mind of Ultron. She saw humanity annihilation, she and her body turn tails and run away.

However, Ultron was stopped from uploading his consciousness into the synthetic body when captain Steve approaches the lab. While trying to flee the scene, Romanoff and Barton were able to make away with the synthetic body and Romanoff was captured.

Back in the tower, Tony informs Banner that J.A.V.I.S is alive and he would want to put him into the synthetic body retrieved from Ultron. A fight broke among the avengers but Thor showed up only to activities the synthetic body. What came out, was not J.A.V.I.S but an entity we all came to know as Vision.

Vision has the mind stone on his forehead, the mind stone was formally in Loki sceptre. Vision proved himself to the team by picking up Thor’s Hammer. Which is a sign of being worthy! The avengers and the Maximoff twins team up to defeat the sentient  AI from destroying life as we know it in Sokovia.

The Content of the Movie

Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has captured our attention from all around the globe. People of different race and religion loves the Avengers. A comic nerd like me would want to be in the movie.  Avengers Age of Ultron does not live up to my expectation. Although the movie is bait for the continuity of the Franchise, it is geared towards a brief moment of entertainment.

Fans of the franchise will be pleased, but those looking from the outside of comic-book culture may find themselves also looking at their watches

The movie begins with an action flick that promises action-packed entertainment for the remaining part of the movie, only for the movie to continue in disappointment. Everyone one of the characters must have some amount of screen time which made the movie bad.

We expect more from the director,

For the most part, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is the hard-charging, mind-boggling spectacle fans are looking for. Smash indeed

Tom Long

Naturally, Avengers: Age of Ultron was expected to be just as good as the other MCU movies due to its originality, comic-base material. The movie comprises of many actors that may need solo movies in the future.  Jose Whedon demonstrates that all MCU characters can be in a blockbuster movie. Yes, marvel has a way of bringing the past and the future together to make a good storyline.

Age of Ultron just seemed to be inline of a brief period of entertainment. I was hoping that Ultron can be a formidable opponent for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but it’s a complete letdown. He could not win against J. A. V. I. S as Javis keeps changing the nuclear code

Someone or something keeps changing the nuclear launch code

Like with most movies taking from a comic point of view, the movie is predictable, the storyline was almost focusing on the half-baked action scene.

Take a break and chat with me; and if you need a full screen chat

The movie should have been a great movie where Ultron is a formidable foe of Iron man in the comics make the avengers have a hard time.  The movie is packed with fun parts as the man behind Ultron James Spader.

A great actor, a veteran, but the role he played in Avengers: Age of Ultron seem comical and does not really justify the potential and expertise of the character he is currently playing in The Blacklist

Unlike the action-packed Captain America: the winter soldier where the roles of the actors and villains remain fixed, in this movie we have the soldier of the Maximoff’s changing to even something better as Avengers.

With so much of our lives depending on technology, it can short explained the rise of Ultron from Earth’s Peace-Keeping program to a killer robot who is fixated on seeing the end of humanity

Do you see the beauty of it? The inevitability? You rise, only to fall. You Avengers, you are my meteor. My swift and terrible sword and the earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers; turn my flesh against me. It means nothing! When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world… will be metal

The cast of the movie

The movie is stuffed with greats actors.  The heroes (lest you have  forgotten their names) are Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), as Ironman, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) as the Hulk, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johannsson) as Black Widow, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as Captain America, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) as Hawkeye, Wanda Maximmoff (Elizabeth Olsen) as Scarlet Witch, Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) as Quicksilver and Nick Fury (Samuel .L. Jackson).

The Collective Works of the Actors

Movies are as good as their directors can be and the actors embodying the characters. Avengers: Age of Ultron is no different. Kudos to the director of the movie Joss Wheldon  and our very own MCU hero Stan Lee. The pleasure is all mine to have written a review of one of your masterpiece Stan Lee.

Chris Evens playing the character as Captain America brings years off experience and good acting to make the movie what we love. For Chris Evans, Robort Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, and James Spader the voice of Ultron to have embodied their characters, it really a movie to watch. The actors are just good at playing their own characters and roles. I’m guessing, among many reasons, this particular reason contributes immensely to why they are chosen in the first place to act their respective characters

I said to Joss ‘why do you want me to do this?’ He said he wanted to be able to have someone who could be irreverent and childish-not childlike, but childish. And be able to have humour and childishness married with a sort of credible gravitas. I don’t know what the hell he thought. But in any case, that’s what I packed in my luggage

Without an element of doubt, some of the actors; James Spader came prepared to the shooting set to give to us the action we desire. Iconic actor Samuel .L. Jackson never ceases to amaze me in all his movies. It seems like he is born to act movies and create impact.

Heroes of the Movie

I’m sure after reading this movie review, you’d like to watch Avengers: Age of Ultron all over again. There are several heroes in this particular movie that are worth mentioning their heroic works.

The first on my list is the mad-scientist, Bruce Banner and Tony Stark (Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. respectively) to have decided on their own without telling the team and waiting for their approval, they simply don’t understand, the meaning of the conversation between Stark and Captain America

 Tony; we’ll lose

Steve: Then we’ll do that together too

The duo (Banner and Stark) really done justice to the name Mad-Scientist when they created Ultron. Jeremy Renner, even though without superpowers, he seems to be the balance between the powers (Thor, Captian, and Banner) and Black Widow, himself and the multibillionaire playboy Tony Stark.

Easily, the fourth-best Avengers movie. Ultron is a worthy enemy for everyone's favourite superhero team! Joss Whedon wrote and directed a visually dazzling MCU thrill ride! The performances of Downey, Evans, Ruffalo, Hemsworth, Johansson, Renner, Bettany, Olsen, Taylor-Johnson, Cheadle, Mackie, Serkis, Spader and Jackson are masterful and commanding! The score by Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman is worthy, even though it's underwhelming compared to the score of the first Avengers film, composed by the great Alan Silvestri. Ben Davis's cinematography is on par with the cinematography of Seamus McGarvey from The Avengers and the cinematography of Trent Opaloch from Infinity War and Endgame! A great, although overstuffed MCU sequel!

The maximoff’s played an important role in making the movie what it is.

Is the Movie any Good?

Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU has a way of making every hero or villain shines. This goes in line with the popular saying

every dog has its day

The movie depicts robot breathtaking battles with superheroes while the world is falling apart. It is a mixture of excitement and anxiety watching a robot trying to create an android just to destroy all that is good and perfect in the world.

The movie plot is such that it can keep your adrenaline level going up with little or no dialogues but focus on what the millennia’s are always anxious to see in movies-action scenes.

There is a lot of action here to keeps die-hard-fans like myself guild to the screen for 2 hours without needing a distraction. To put it simply, the movie is a dam-good-movie.

On A Final Note

Avengers Age of Ultron is a movie that depicts what will happen when a sentient machine comes online without the proper programming to differentiate the difference between saving and destroying the world.

This is the future that may awaits the world if the buzz and rushed to artificial intelligence is not checked, addressed and controlled. We may be looking at the world from the barrel of nuclear war started by machines.
