Being a Librarian

Being a librarian is not an easy job. Most people think that the librarians' job is to silence people in the library and read books all day long. Or sit all day and read newspapers and books until it's time to go home. But actually, that thinking is wrong.

Librarians' job has a wide scope. They are responsible in organizing the collection in the library that includes books, periodicals (newspapers, magazines and journals) and making it accessible for the community. They are the managers of the library. They need to ensure that the library's collections and services support the information needs of the people in its community.

In school libraries, the school librarians teach library and information literacy as part of their job aside from managing the school's library. They also need to provide services and activities for the students to develop their love for reading.

Being a librarian is a challenging job to do yet a satisfying one. It is satisfying to see children reading happily the books they love. It is also good to know that they enjoy the activities you prepare. As a librarian, you will be happy to witness their excitement when there are new books that they can read.

People should not underestimate the works of a librarian. Try being a librarian and you will understand and realize why.
