Who is El Gamma Penumbra

El Gamma Penumbra are a Latin words which meaning "a ray of light behind a man's shadow."  This is the name of the group.  El Gamma Penumbra or simply El Gamma is a theater dance group that dances behind a screen with light behind the dancers, casting beautiful and creative shadows on the screen.  This FiIipino group do not just cast shadows in random but they tell a story.  These shadows follow a theme and a concept as they interpret the song that goes along with their dance.

This Filipino group hails from Tanauan, Batangas.  They started as a hip-hop dance group in their hometown, competing in different dance contests.  With the dream of making it big, they then decided to improve and change their act to shadow dance.  There are many hip-hop dance groups out there.  They then decided to bring something unique by playing with shadows and light.  The group consists of 21 or more male dancers.

El Gamma  Got Talent

In October 2011, the group decided to join the localized version of Britain's Got Talent which is the Pilipinas Got Talent.   By then the franchise was at its Third Season.  The group performed and did well.  They made it to the grand finals and bagged the fourth place with 8.05% of the total votes.

In one performance, they interpreted a local song entitle "Babalik Ka Rin" by Gary Valenciano.  They performed a dance showing different sights and wonders of the world.  You travel around the world but there is no place like home.

For their grand finals performance, the theater dance group showcased different places to visit in the Philippines.  They showed shadows of famous tourist attractions that the Philippines has.  This is to promote also tourism in the Philippines.  It shows that there are a lot of things to see in the Philippines.

In September 2014, they auditioned for Asia's Got Talent and was able to make it to the semi-finals and eventually grand finals, winning the first ever Asia's Got Talent

They first told a story of love that lasts a long time, for a lifetime, while showing different known attractions in the world.  They made a big impression to the judges.  This shot them through the semi-finals with a golden buzzer from Anggun, one of the judges of the show.

Their luck continued to roll on.  They then performed and danced with the song "One Day" by Matisyahu.  They interpreted it that war breaks us all but one day it will be okay because love prevails.  The judges were moved and applauded their performance.

For their final performance, they gave a message of how important it is for us to take care of mother nature.  They raised awareness of how we destroy the only planet that we have.  We should take care of our environment.  We reap whatever destruction we do to nature.

This is a very moving and inspiring performance that made them win the show.  The audience loved it, the judges loved it and the world loved it.

Although the original number of members were cut down to 13 during the entire show, nevertheless, the group was able to deliver and bagged the crown.  They are an inspiration to everyone.  Dream big and do something about your dream.

Over the years, they have been invited to perform in different parts of the globe.

They are already a constant guest in local TV shows such as Showtime, an ABS-CBN noontime show.  They always give their 100% best when they perform, leaving the viewers in awe.  They give tribute to their country and the fallen heroes, mother nature, LGBT community, etc.

With their talent and with what they achieved and proven to the world, it comes as no surprise that the group is set to perform for the APEC Summit.  They will perform in front of the leaders of the world.  That is something to be really proud of.  The APEC Summit will be attended by 21 world leaders and they will be able to witness live how talented this group really is.  The APEC Summit dinner is on November 18.
