"The Pinocchio in the Planter" is episode twenty of season six of Bones, the forensic drama television series loosely based on the novels and life of anthropologist Kathy Reichs. In this episode, a body of a man who started being completely honest to everyone is found in a planter.

The Perils of Peeping

A boy climbs on some planters so that he can look through an open window into the ladies' changing room at a community centre. When one of the woman sees him and screams, he falls onto the planter, and a skeletal head rears out of the soil.

Dead for Three Days

The planters are new and the victim has only been dead for around three days. A car key nearby leads to the victim's home - he's a wealthy ad man who runs his own company, having set it up six months previously. His children have left home and his wife has recently divorced him.

Hit in the Face on Multiple Occasions

Examination of the remains shows that he had his face smashed in on four separate occasions in the past year. One of those occasions was when his former boss was filmed hitting the dead man in the face with an award. He left the company to found his own, she filed a case saying that he was deliberately sabotaging her business and the judge found in the dead man's favour just before the murder. Which is a coincidence.

Radical Honesty Does Not Make You Mr. Popular

According to the former boss, several others had broken the dead man's nose - she was the only one filmed doing so. According to her, the man suddenly changed, becoming unpleasant to everyone, speaking his mind no matter what, costing the firm he worked for six clients in six months. According to her, the deceased suddenly grew a conscience, after a kid choked - non-fatally - on a Christmas toy they promoted. He joined an organisation that promoted the concept of complete, radical honesty. Telling everyone the truth does not always go down well. Brennan doesn't see why this would be the case - she has a tendency to be overly honest herself. The group the dead man joined meets at the same community centre where his body was found. An interesting coincidence. One of the members of the group is a clown. Booth hates clowns.

The Drawbacks of Honesty

It seems that the dead man's honesty had driven his wife, and children, away. Being honest has its drawbacks, but did they lead to the victim's death? Complete honesty also seems a drawback for an ad man.

Everyone Starts Being Really Honest

With honesty being such a focal point of the investigation, honesty starts cropping up in everyone's conversations. Just to see how it works. Until Cam has had enough of it.

Personal Issues

Angela is concerned about Hodgins, as they found out in "The Blackout in the Blizzard" that their baby could have a congenital disease that would make it blind. She feels that Hodgins is overcompensating as a result of his worry.
