Cannes Film Festival: Day 8

Today was a relaxing day. We went to the beach and to do some sightseeing outside of the festival.

We went up to the Cannes castle and it was curious to see the difference between the Cannes "festival" coast and the Cannes "normal" coast. Check it out!

After that we went to have dinner at a very nice place, we laughed so much! The truth is that the people that I met here and who share the flat with me are awesome.

Now, let me talk to you about the Marché du film (film market).

Here is where every producer, sales agency, festival and distribution company try to reach deals in order to sell rights of their audiovisual products (mostly movies) to other countries, televisions, etc.

The projects might be finished, in postproduction or just a script. These are some of the movies for sale this year. I chose these because they had the funniest posters.

Yeah, Rambo V was there, too.

There are also many screening rooms for distributors to check the movies on sale etc., and also many parties from the production companies in order to attract buyers to their place. There are companies from all around the world, it´s a very huge market with over 2000 movies on sale. There´s a lot of money moving around here.

This made me realize the commercial side of filmmaking. You may dream on shooting the best movie you are able to, but in the end business is business and a project needs to generate cash, and that has its own rules, that as filmmakers we need to know. This was the best lesson for me these days.

More stuff going on tomorrow!
