Cats and Dogs Dream while Sleeping

Cats and Dogs Dream while Sleeping

I was surprised to learn that cats and dogs (actually all mammals) dream while sleeping.

Cats and dogs dream about events that happened throughout the day, and from short-term and long-term memories.

I know, when cats and dogs sleep, their minds replay the events they experienced throughout the day. I like to imagine, however, that cats dream about stalking prey in a jungle, and dogs dream about a yard filled with dirt, bones and squirrels. It makes me laugh thinking about dogs dreaming they were flying, and fighting crime.

I was shocked to learn some cats and dogs sleepwalk. Sleepwalking cats and dogs act similar to how they act while awake, because they are acting out their memories from before they fell asleep.

I have seen cats and dogs seemingly wake instinctually and do something. I yelled the animal's name and the animal suddenly looked at me confused. I always figured the animal was startled while sleeping. If someone owned a cat or dog that did crazy things while sleepwalking, that person would be an internet celebrity. For example, if someone's dog would sit on the couch with the television remote control and watch television. I don't think I'd want to see a cat sleepwalking - that would be some freaking zombie-cat stuff.
