Today, we celebrate a day of "worldwide fraternity and understanding between children", also known as Universal Children's Day, as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1954. It is aimed to raise awareness about children working and living in poor conditions throughout the world, or suffering from violence or abuse.

Google chose to depict children from different ethnicities joining hands and looking happy in today's Doodle. It comes a few days after the search engine announced some measures to start blocking links to child pornography material.
