Coca-Cola Goes on Sale in the United Kingdom

Posted on at

On 31st August 1900, Coca-Cola first went on sale in the United Kingdom.

Coca-Cola was first invented in 1886 by John Pemberton. In 1888 Asa Candler, a drugstore clerk, bought the formula from Pemberton, and other shareholders, for $550. Which was a rather large sum for the time.

Initially created as a patent medicine, it has since become the world's most valuable brand, and probably the most recognisable soft drink. In 1900, Asa Candler brought a jug of the syrup concentrate with him on a trip to the UK, but it didn't go on regular sale until the 1920s
