COLLEGE CONVOCATION

Posted on at

Our college convocation and prize distribution cam off on Saturday on the 20th May. The Secretary of Education was to preside over the function. Great preparations were made for his reception. Invitations were issued to the local gentry and the district officers. A big shamiana was set up in the college lawn. The gates of the college were decorated with flowers pots and buntings. Mottoes were hung everywhere in the college.

The rout which led to the Shamiana was specially ornamented. A raised dais was prepared at the farthest end for the Chief Guest. On the dais, there were two chairs one for the Chief Guest and the other for the Principals. To the right and left, there were tables for prizes and chairs for distinguished visitors and the staff. In front of the dais, the boys sat on the benches. Various prizes were arranged on the table.

The chief guest arrived at 4-PM. The principal and the senior members of the staff received him at the entrance. He was garlanded and taken to the dais. When he entered the shamiana, all rose in their places. After he had taken his seat, the ceremony was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The vice principal of the college called the graduates in groups of fives. The principal awarded them the degrees of B.A and B.Sc.

The chief guest delivered his presidential address. It was short but very thoughtful. He expressed his pleasure at the progress which the college had made. He exhorted the teachers to keep the high ideal of their profession always before them. Then he urged the students to be simple, honest and upright. He asked them to devote themselves to the service of their nation and the glory of Islam. He also promised to consider the needs of the college and to do what was possible to meet them.
