The Australian Human Rights Commission welcomes the Government's reforms to the Workplace Gender Equality Act. The gender equality reporting under the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) is an essential source of information for workplaces and policy makers addressing gender equality and the gender pay gap in Australian workplaces, said Commissioner Broderick. One area of reform will be to focus reporting related to paid parental leave on the proportion of employees ceasing work during or at the end of parental leave. The Commission raised this issue in its 2014 National review into discrimination related to pregnancy and return to work after parental leave , noting that this would assist organisations to identify gender gaps and then develop or adjust measures to support working parents.
