Hazrat zaid bin Haris

Hazrat zaid was bought as a slave in Syria by a nephew of hazrat khadija. He brought him to makkah and gifted him to his aunt hazrat khadija who presented him to her husband the holy prophet peace be upon him.

When zaid’s father came to know of his whereabouts he came to makkah to take back. Hazrat Mohammad peace be upon him gave him the choice to go with his father but he refused to go and preferred to stay. Therefore hazrat Mohammad peace be upon him freed him and adopted him as a son. From that time he came to be known as zaid bin Mohammad.

When the holy prophet peace be upon him started to preach Islam hazrat zaid was among the very first converts to the faith. After migration to madinah, hazrat zaid was joined in brotherhood to hazrat hamza an uncle of the holy prophet peace be upon him hazrat zaid was a brave warrior.

He commanded several expeditions and fought in the battles of badr, uhad and khandaq. He was present when the treaty of hudaibiya was signed. He was often made incharge of madinah when hazrat Mohammad peace be upon him was away on a military expedition.

Hazrat zaid died in 8 A.H. at the age of 55 in the battle of mutah as the commander and standard bearer of the Muslim army. The holy prophet peace be upon him loved him very much. He is the only companion of the holy prophet peace be upon him whose name has been mentioned in the holy Quran.
