     Continent is one of the several landmasses on earth.There are seven continents on the earth.These seven continents are

Asia
Africa
North America
South America
Antarctica
Europe
Australia

Asia


     Asia is the largest and most populous continent and it is five time larger than Australia.The population of Asia is about 4 billion which is 60 percent of the world population.Land area occupied by Asia is about 8.6 % of the total earth surface or 29% of the land area.Mount Everest,the world's highest peak is in Asia.

     Asia is rich in natural resources.Coal,petroleum,forests,fish,water,copper and silver are the natural resources of Asia.World coal cosumption is about 6.2 billion tons.More than half is provided by Asia.Due to the extremes of the weather,Asia has a wide range of Flora and Fauna.Floura is used for all the plants and fauna denotes all the animal groups.

     There are almost 50 countries in Asia.The area of Asia is 49694700 square km.Asia has large number of islands.These islands includes some of largest islands such as Borneo and Sumatra.Islam,Christianity,Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism are the major religions of world.These all religions emerged in Asia. 


     Asian people speaks variety of languages.Most of the Asian countries have more than one language as Indonesia has more than 600 languages and more than 415 languages are spoken in India.Asians have won noble prizes in different fields.Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian Scientist to win the noble prize in 1913.Other Asians noble prize holders are Mother Teresa,Yaser Arafat and Dr.Abdul Salam.

     Asia is an agricultural continent.About 90 percent of the world's rice is produced in Asia.Rice is the staple food crop for many Asian countries.Asia has has a wide variety of wild animal.Some of wild animals are only found in Asia as Panda is found in China,Komodo dragon in Indonesia,gavial in India and Orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra
