Film making with DSLR (Tutorial Part 3)

In this episode I am going to write about stabilizing your video when shooting hand-held.

Firstly, as I have previously stated that you have to hold your camera like this to reduce shaky hands.

There is another method by which one can reduce the camera shake. Below is a picture of such a way how you can reduce the camera shake much more effectively with the help of the mere strap of your DLSR. Hold your DLSR away from you in such way so that there is a tension created with the help of your neck. Hold it away tightly unless the strap becomes stiff.

Use an IS (Canon) or VR (Nikon) lens to stabilise your video further.

There are also expensive ways to stabilize your video. The introduction of steady cam has gone a mile more in stabilizing your video. There are many brands in the market who make these stabilizing kit. It looks like a tripod but its function is totally different from that of a tripod. It has got weight bars at the bottom to set your fulcrum. Once you set everything you are ready to run around with and do almost anything with it with very minimum amount of shake.

Image stabilization kits are made by brands such Glidecam, Steadicam, Flycam, etc..

Shoulder rig is another stabilizing medium with which one can stabilize camera shake.
