First active Philippine Eagle nest in Luzon found in Apayao

In the forests of Apayao, the first Philippine Eagle nest in Luzon as found.

 

Apayao (CNN Philippines) — The lush virgin forests of Apayao province has been home to the first Philippine Eagle nest in Luzon island, a major discovery and among the first in the history of Philippine Eagle research and conservation.

Tatiana Abaño, project coordinator of the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) announced this landmark discovery in Philippine Eagle research and conservation in a biodiversity forum recently held in Luna, Apayao.

PEF Director Jayson Ibañez announced the recent discovery as a landmark in research and conservation which highlights the needs for conservation of forests of Apayao that serves as home for the Philippine Eagle in Luzon.

“One hundred nineteen years later today, we celebrate the same spirit of scientific discovery to announce another first in the history of Philippine Eagle research and conservation - the discovery of the world’s first active Philippine Eagle nest on Luzon Island,” Ibañez said.

Ibañez said the same feeling of the discovery of the Philippine Eagle in July 1986 in Samar some 119 years ago is now being celebrated by the Philippine Eagle Foundation....
