Galaxy S7 Specs And Features: Samsung BRITECELL Trademark Backs Up 12-MP Camera Rumors

Samsung may move past its high megapixel count camera phase with the Galaxy S7. A recently discovered trademark for a new camera technology may indicate that the upcoming smartphone will feature a camera with a larger sensor and a lower megapixel count.

Conflicting rumors have surfaced for the Galaxy S7 camera recently. Early rumors suggested a 20-megapixel lens for the smartphone. More recent rumors have suggested a 25-megapixel Sony Exmor RS IMX300 lens or a 12-megapixel lens with a 1/2-inch sensor. Larger camera sensors allow more light to enter the lens and improves over-all image quality.

The recently discovered trademark gives details about a new BRITECELL technology, which employs a similar large sensor for allowing more light to enter a camera lens. The description for the trademark indicates the technology is an “image sensor for mobile phones.” We’ve also seen such a technology employed on Google’s new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones, which are being lauded for their exemplary cameras, Android Authority notes.
