General Tips for IELTs Speaking Test

1.Be Formal
By formal means try to be at your best with behavior and attitude because it is going to put good impression on the examiner psychologically.Ielts don’t have any restriction on the cloth so you can wear anything that will be make you feel comfortable on the ielts speaking day.

2.Give a full answer
Try to give as much descriptive answer as much you can.

For example

What is the name of your hometown?

Your answer should not be only your hometown name. You are judged by use of English language therefore you should show off your English as much as you can. So,try to give description answer about your hometown. In that way, examiner is going to know that you know everything about English like vocabulary, tenses and much more.

3.Be Polite/Cultural
Try to be as much cultural as much you can.If you don’t understand anything then you can ask the examiner politely that “Can you please repeat it” or “ what does “this word” means?

By doing so,you will not be going to have bad impression or score deduction as you are using English skill to clarifying your doubt.

4.Maintain Good Poster
Actually your poster affects the way you speak. It also affects your voice tone and confidence as well.Try to sit straight and don’t lean on your face on your hand or something like that. You will be able to speak much better if you maintain good poster

5.Speak Clearly
It is very important because your speaking session is recording. It is marked by another examiner as well. That’s why you need to speak as much clear as much you can.Every nation finds few phoenix or words difficult to pronunciate. For example Spanish candidates finds it difficult to say “Yes” instead they say “ Jes” which is clearly wrong and it can make them lose band score.Make sure you eradicate any pronunciation issues before you appear in your ielts exam

6.Use description words
As we are showing off in our exam, that’s why try to use as much advance or difficult words as much you can.For examples instead of good, bad words you can use thrilled, depressed.I hope it makes sense to you.Use thesaurus and find appropriate words that you are going to use in your speaking test.Keep that list with you till the test day.

7.Keep Steady Pace
This is also importanat.Try to make sure you keep the best pace so that you can sound as much clear as much you can as you are probably not native speaker. I am sure if you do,you will be able to get much higher score as well.

8.Explain Foreign or Native Word
In your ielts speaking test, you will be using some words which will be common. It can be your favorite dish or name of your city or sports that is only played in your country or hometown. Try to explain that word once you use it while speaking to examiner.

For example “ Biryani” is favorite dish of most of the Indian students. But you need to explain it once you use the word “biryani” like this.

My favorite dish is biryani and it is our traditional or cultural food.

9.Stay on Topic
You need to stay on topic to achieve maximum band score. It is true for all three sections of ielts speaking test.It happens while making your answer descriptive to show your language skills. It is mandatory to stay on topic otherwise you can lose score.

10.Don’t Use Slangs
“Slangs” is  a language that consists of words and phrases that are not formal and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people.

“grass is slang for marijuana”

Try to avoid slangs like

Children instead of kids

Items instead of stuff

11.Don’t Memorize Answer
Many students read ielts model answers and it is very good practice to get better ideas about the topics but don’t memorize the answer. If you did memorized the answer than your tone will not be natural at all and examiner will instantly get the idea that the answer is memorized. Also,if you forget the answer in between than everything is going to fall apart instantly and you will lose all of your confidence and grip to answer.
