Hello there humans! I’m back! So what are you guys up to? Still buzzing? Talking to some dude/gal in the Global chat while having a hard time translating your words to English? (hahaha) I feel you!! As a non – native English speaker, there are times that I am having a hard time, translating my words from Filipino to English, — not that I don’t know how to speak English well, ‘coz obviously I am speaking English right now, okay technically I am writing not speaking. *smirk*

But even though I know how to speak in English, as a Filipina I still want to express and use some words in my native language, the Filipino language.  If you are a non-native English speaker like me, you want to express what you really want to explain in your own native language,  Am I right or am I right? You get me right? Alright! (Hahaha *facepalm*)

Okay, for example, I am talking to someone here in Bitlanders and I really want to express what I am feeling, may it be happiness, anger, hatred, in love (in love? Hahahah! Hello there alien from Uranus *tongue hanging out* eee!! I greeted you in my blog. Hahaha! I know your eyes are having hearts now. Hahah! Kilig?) or simply just Hugot, I can’t tell them directly what I want to say simply because there is a language barrier. Anyways, going back, do you know what hugot means? How about the word kilig? They both are Filipino words.  Kilig in slang, especially in social netweorking sites like tumblr or 9gag, as the feelsbut the feels has a lot of meaning depending on your sentence. This is what I am talking about, it is much better to use some words in my native language because I am already used to speaking that way using that specific word, so when I want to express something that is hard to explain in English, of course, I would want to use that word but then again, not all can understand me.

In this blog, I am going to teach you guys some common words that we use in our daily lives as Filipinos. So the next time I talk to you guys, you will already understand me. *wink* To those humans who are interested, you will surely enjoy this blog and to those humans who just don’t care, I command you to read this blog and don’t just buzz it and post stickers on the comment section below!! (hahaha) Come on guys, most users here in Bitlanders are either from Philippines or Pakistan, we should at least learn a word or two from each other’s language besides it wouldn’t kill you if you’ll learn new words right? *tongue hanging out*

By the way, this blog is the first of my

HOY! HOY! PSST! PINOY! BLOG SERIES

series so enjoy reading guys!

KILIG:

Since I first mentioned the word kilig — pronounced as ki:lɪg, let’s start with this one first, shall we? So again, what is kilig? Yes as I’ve mentioned above, popular social networking sites like 9gag, tumblr, twitter and the like, describes kilig as the feels but then again, it’s not the whole definition.

Okay, let me ask you, Have you ever experienced someone —may it be someone you like or have a crush on or your lover, and he or she does things for you or say romantic things to you which makes you feel like you’re floating in the air + you feel like there are butterflies in your stomach (collywobbles) + so much happiness that you feel like bursting + your smile is up to your ears + you feel like you’re flying to Pluto + you feel like you’re having a seizure but with feelings?! (Hahahah! Yes! With feelings!) Feelings, both happiness and in love; you add everything together you’ll get the definition of the word KILIG; in other words, it is the rush of excitement when you see or experience something romanticIn English, the word kilig is close to the definition of enamored. Got it? Okay, let me explain further by giving you an example.

PIKON:

PIKON, which is pronounced as pēkɒn, in English, is pique.  For those humans who doesn’t know what pique or pikon means, it is the feeling of being angry or irritated / annoyed to a person who destroyed your ego while he/she is joking or said something about you.

So have you ever experienced being pikon? I guess we all experienced being pikon even for once in our life. *wink*

TAMPO:

Remember when your loved one especially your best friend or lover did something wrong that it made you feel both sad and angry? It disappointed you and you act like it was all okay even though you’re far from okay. You act like it’s all good but that person can see it in your face that you’re not.  You are mad, but not really that mad and you’re sad but not sad like you’re going to hate that person; Some instance, you don’t want to talk to that person  at all if he / she does things that made you angry and sad. Humans, that is what we call TAMPO— pronounced as tæmpɒ. We may say tampo is to sulk or sulking in English. Got it?

LAMBING:

LAMBING — pronounced as læmbɪŋ is when you do or say sweet, tender and affectionate things to your loved ones. You can do lambing with your mom, dad, grandparents, boyfriend / girlfriend, husband / wife, child / children or anyone who is close to you. Lambing in the English term is close to the word, to dote.

GIGIL:

That feeling when you have the urge to squeeze, pinch or bite someone because he / she is unbearably cute? Humans, Filipino call that feeling as GIGIL. At the same time, gigil is also that urge when you want to pinch, punch or even crush someone so hard because he / she annoys you. Filipinos pronounced the word gigil as gi:gɪl which doesn’t really have an English term. Won’t believe me? Go on, google it! I dare you! ( HAHA * tongue hanging out *)

HUGOT:

This is actually LookUp's favorite! (HAHA hi! Plook!)  So, what is hugot? HUGOT which is pronounced as hu:gəʊt means to draw or pull out deep emotional or sentimental undertones from deep within. If you visit popular social media sites like twitter, you can see that #hugot is a popular hashtag.

Remember the song, Against all odds by Phil Collins?

“How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace

When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh

You're the only one who really knew me at all

How can you just walk away from me,

When all I can do is watch you leave

Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears

You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space

And there's nothing left here to remind me,

Just the memory of your face

Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space

And you coming back to me is against the odds and that's what I've got to face

I wish I could just make you turn around,

Turn around and see me cry

There's so much I need to say to you,

So many reasons why

You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space

And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face

Now take a look at me now, cause there's just an empty space

But to wait for you, is all I can do and that's what I've got to face

Take a good look at me now, cause I'll still be standing here

And you coming back to me is against all odds

It's the chance I've gotta take

Take a look at me now”

—Phil Collins, Against all odds

(HAHAHA) That is song is so hugot! How about Total Eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler?

“And I need you now tonight

And I need you more than ever

And if you only hold me tight

We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right

'Cause we'll never be wrong

Together we can take it to the end of the line

Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time

(All of the time)

I don't know what to do

I'm always in the dark

Living in a powder keg and giving off sparks

I really need you tonight

Forever's gonna start tonight

(Forever's gonna start tonight)

Once upon a time I was

I was falling in love

But now I'm only falling apart

There's nothing I can do

A total eclipse of the heart

Once upon a time there was light in my life

But now there's only love in the dark

Nothing I can say

A total eclipse of the heart”

—  Bonnie Tyler, Total Eclipse of the heart

Now that was a super #hugot song! (hahaha!) You can see that the writer of the song put all his / her emotions to the songs I showed you above. So guys, if LookUp’s gonna do a hugot next time, just try to understand him. (HAHA don’t be a pikon plook! *tongue hanging out*)

I, personally, enjoy saying hugot statements to my friends, especially when they least expect me to say hugot because they are saying something serious to me. I think randomly replying hugot to your friends is really funny. *haha*
