InterNet Virus

Posted on at

The Internet is a big place filled with lots of “Free” offers for this and “Essential” programs for that, emails coming from people and places you never heard of and other dangers for your computer just a click away. Even if you have the  best and most expensive anti-virus, it is still possible to get Virus’, Trojans and other malware(malicious software) or potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).

What can we do for you?

Computer Zone specializes in quickly identifying malware running rogue on a computer and can professionally remove it and restore it to normal operating condition. In some cases, malware can cause irreversible damage to an Operating System that can not be successfully removed, especially if it is not dealt with swiftly. In those cases, we can back up all of your important files like your Pictures, Videos, Music, Documents, Email and other important settings to a safe and temporary location. Once all of your important files are secured, we can erase everything on your computer (removing any malware with it) and load a clean version of your Operating System or upgrade you if you like. When your computer is back to new and loaded with anti-virus software, we move all of your data from our temporary onsite location back on to your computer right where you left it and you get your computer back as close to new-like condition as possible.  In addition, we load our own customized remote desktop software that you can utilize to allow us access to your computer should you have any question, problems or concerns and its inconvenient for you to bring your computer back to the shop.

What can I do to protect myself?

We get asked this a lot.  The best thing you can do to keep yourself free from Virus’ and such is to stay vigilant while you are surfing the web. Do not open attachments from people you do not know or are not expecting. Having anti-virus is a good idea as well, but keep in mind there is no anti-virus that is infallible so having safe web surfing habits is essential. There are plenty of good options for  anti-virus available, and for most of our clients, the one we recommend and install most frequently (Avast! Anti-Virus) is suitable, but additional protection maybe advised. Quick scans should be run daily and full scans once a week, both of which can be easily scheduled at at time when you are least likely to be using your computer.

Computer Zone FBI Ransomware

New to the online digital arena is Ransomware (Read: Ransome Software). This is software that locks your computer and identifies itself as an official government or law enforcement agency and attempts to trick you into paying a “fine” or ransom to unlock your computer and return it to its previous condition. DO NOT PAY THIS RANSOM. Not only will you NOT unlock your computer, but you encourage future online scammers and digital criminals to create more of this ridiculous crapware. In the event that you do find yourself in a situation where you are looking at a screen similar to the one  here and your camera has been activated revealing your face on the official looking message from the FBI or whatever law enforcement agency, DO NOT PANIC.  Turn your computer off and bring it to us as soon as possible for removal.
