ITP Weekly Blog #6 - Let's Play!

Posted on at

Hello everyone!

So if you've been watching my BitLander's channel for the past week, you've probably discovered that I've been uploading videos on my play through of my favorite video game of all time, Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic, or KOTOR for short. I know that Let's Plays are not that common around here on BitLanders, at least to my knowledge, so it might help if I went ahead and defined what a Let's Play actually is.

According to Wikipedia, a Let's Play is defined as:

Let's Play is a video, or less commonly a series of screenshots, documenting a playthrough of a video game, always including commentary by the gamer.[1] A Let's Play differs from a walkthrough or strategy guide by focusing on an individual's subjective experience with the game, often with humorous, irreverent, or critical commentary from the gamer, rather than being an objective source of information on how to progress through the game.

So why did I decide to do a Let's Play? For the same reason I do any of my other projects. I wanted to do something that was fun and interesting, as well as something that I could share with the rest of you guys. Plus I've always wanted to get into the Let's Play scene. Over at YouTube it's a bit harder to get noticed for posting Let's Play videos because that place is absolutely saturated with them. Here at BitLanders, the Let's Play scene is fairly nascent. I've seen some videos here and there but not too many. And since I nearly have an audience of 4,000 subscribers, I figured why not?

Thankfully you guys seem to be enjoying my videos as I post them. Star Wars KOTOR is a fairly long game too, and even after I'm able to purchase the full version of Bandicam to record longer play sessions, there's still a great amount of content to get through before we get to the literal end game. So get comfortable folks, I am here to take you on a journey!

But don't worry, my animated projects are not going away just because I've decided to start doing Let's Plays. What's going on right now is that my subscription at GoAnimate has run out but I'm working to get it back sometime in the near future. So once I get that back, I'll be back at it with Ninja Steve, Emina, Space Opera, and all that good stuff. Maybe even some extra stuff!

This does make me think about something that has been on the back of my mind for a while. I'm not the only person here at BitLanders who posts multiple videos. I was thinking, BitLanders needs to have the option to create playlists. People around here post a large variety of videos and some may get lost in the jumble of what's being posted, and those videos may not be able to be easily found. Just click on my Movies section and see how long it takes you to scroll down to find the first episode of my animated series Emina.

Go ahead. I'll wait.

...

Took a little while didn't it? And that is why I feel there needs to be an option to create a playlist. If we can create galleries to store multiple photos in one group of files, why not do the same thing with videos?

Anyway enough of my ranting. If you liked my Let's Play videos from this past week and would like to just kick back for an hour and see where things have lead up to this point, well I've got you covered right here. And if you haven't seen my videos before, now is a good time to jump in!
