LAHORE: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has announced a mass contact drive in March with the theme of `corruption-free Pakistan` and convince at least one million boys and girls to join the movement.

The announcement was made by party Emir Sirajul Haq while talking to the media at Mansoora after concluding session of the JI Shoora here on Sunday.

Announcing the decisions taken by the party`s consultative body, he said one million youths in the country would be mobilised during 2016 to attract them towards the Islamic movement with equal attention to males and females.

A countrywide `Jeevay Pakistan Caravan` would be taken out from Karachi to Peshawar in August under the JI youth wing. JI women`s wing would be organised at tehsil and district levels. Special centres would be set up in major towns for counselling women and girls.

Haq said awareness would be created among the youths for promotion of virtue and checking of evil. They would be informed about the `harmful effects` of interest-based banking on society, morals and the economy in order to develop public opinion against the `evil`.

The JI chief criticised the tax amnesty scheme, calling it a clear attempt to oblige the corrupt elite similar to former president Musharraf`s notorious National Reconciliation Order.

Referring to the issue of internally displaced persons, Haq said tribal people were suffering because of the sins of others, which was gross injustice. He said thousands of men, women and children were living in camps in extreme cold. He added there was a need to introduce a new system to the tribal people.
