Mango - King Of Fruits (Part 2)

Mangoes have a very important place in our culture and literature. Many proverbs can be found in Urdu and Hindi literature based on the mangoes. There are so many types of mangoes, at least 450 types are known. 'Alphonso' mangoes are the most famous in India, while many other kinds of mangoes are found in Pakistan. Desi, Chounsa, Dosehri, Fijri, Langra, Saharni and Sindhri are the most loved types of mangoes in Pakistan.

Desi:
This type of mango is considered the oldest one found in Pakistan. It is eaten by sucking the inner stuff from it. Another type of the Desi mango is 'Tapka'. It is quite rare, not easy to find in market. Tapka is the mango that fall on the ground itself from the tree once fully ripened.

Chaunsa:
This mango has become the most demanded one in last decade in Pakistan. It is not so big in size, but It is known for its sweet taste and has a distinct sweet smell. It is cut into slices first and then eaten. It is mostly cultivated in Multan and Rahim Yar Khan in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

Langra:
It is also known for Its sweet taste and smell. It is mostly cultivated in Multan, Mir Pur Khaas, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan. Just like 'Chaunsa', It is also cut into slices first and then eaten. It was the favorite fruit of Allama Iqbal & his friends were used to send these to him as gift.

Sindhri:
The name of this mango is derived from the District Tharparkar of Sindh, Pakistan. It Is said that the family of Former Prime Minister Of Pakistan, Muhammad Khan Junejo, was the first to produce this mango in their farms. It is known for being Juicier than the other mangoes. This mango is exported in large quantities, and Pakistan Government send this type of mangoes to the leaders of other countries as well.

Dosehri:
This mango was cultivated in 18th century in Lucknow, India. The farms were situated in a village named Dosehri, hence the name of this mango. The pit of this mango is small. Some people cut into slices before eating and some just eat it by sucking.

Production In Pakistan:
Pakistan produced almost 18-19 Lakh tonnes mangoes per year. In summer season, It gets so cheap that any one can buy. A huge quantity of mangoes is also exported to Middle East, America and Europe.
