My Favorite Themes In Gaming - Heartbeats - The Sims 3

I've made it no secret that I'm a fan of the Sims franchise. Here at BitLanders I uploaded agallery of characters I made for the Sims 4 (which I bought and enjoyed), and I've even mentioned briefly at another blogging site about my history with the Sims franchise. In fact, I'll cut and paste what I said about that right here:

My first Sims experience came on the Xbox with the entry titled The Sims Busting Out. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and it felt initially like playing a digital version of a dollhouse. But I appreciated the character customization features and the fact that the game allowed you to do such mundane, real world things like getting a job, making friends, and having fun. So that was the Sims game that turned me into a fan.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to play The Sims 2 because I had not yet acquired a gaming PC powerful enough to run it. So that game completely passed me by. Then all of a sudden, I hear the Sims 3 is going to get a release on the then next-gen consoles. So I was very much set to get a hold of the game...only to be disappointed by the scores the Sims 3 was receiving on its home console release. The PC version was clearly the superior and definitive version of the game to own. So I vowed that if I ever got a powerful enough gaming PC, I would one day own The Sims 3...

Fast forward to the Spring on 2012 and I have my gaming PC. I eagerly downloaded the game and to this day I truly enjoy it whenever I get a chance to play it. I've created so many different characters, so many variations on myself, I've really lost track. Since I came into the game a bit late, I've avoided buying any of the expansion packs. And it seems like that's proved to be a wiser move on my part, since in the upcoming Sims 4, none of the expansions currently available for the Sims 3 will be importable into The Sims 4.

I had a blast with the Sims 3, and even as I'm enjoying the Sims 4, I find my thoughts drifting back to a wonderful piece of music that really helped cement that game's experience in my mind.

I remember my character coming back to his home on one particular day. I had him go in and greet his wife, and after eating together, they put the radio on. It was set to Electronica (one of my favorite genres of music) and I remember this song coming on and my characters dancing to it together. My heart swelled as I panned the camera around them, capturing this moment (in my mind, not on some capture device like I should have, lol) and wondering somewhat longingly if I could ever experience something like that personally.

Hey, I'm a hopeless romantic. In fact, I think that's one of my character's traits in the Sims 4, haha!

But getting onto the music, I love this track. It starts off a bit slow at first with a bloopy intro, but when it gets going, it really gets going. You can dance to it, as I had my characters do, but you certainly can't stop your head from nodding to it. And it's also interesting in that the song's only lyric "Heartbeat" isn't sang in the Simlish, the game's fictional language that a lot of its soundtrack is performed in! So hearing that after hearing a bunch of gibber jabber was quite refreshing to my ears!

Hearing this again brings back memories of that event. I haven't quite experienced something like it again, not even in playing the Sims 4. I haven't played the Sims 3 ever since part 4 was released last Summer, but it'll always hold a special place in my heart as my first true Sims experience. And this song, and that special night between my two characters will help keep that memory burning strong for a long time to come!
