National Caramel Custard Day

Posted on at

Today, October 3rd, is National Caramel Custard Day.

Another flavour of custard, this one caramel.

Caramel custard is also known under another name, crème caramel.

Once extremely common in restaurants in Europe, crème caramel has since retreated somewhat from menus.

Rather than a topping that is poured over other desserts, caramel custard is considered to be a dessert in itself.

The dish is prepared by caramelising sugar syrup, which is then poured into a mould. Normal custard is then added to the mould. Once ready, the mould is turned over and the caramel custard is served with the caramel on the top. The dish is easy to prepare, but harder to serve, as it can easily become damaged when removing it from the mould.
