Today, December 28th, is National Chocolate Candy Day.
This covers quite a large number of different things, as any candy (or sweet) involving chocolate could be included in this, from individually wrapped sweets to bars of chocolate. There are many different types, with different varieties of chocolate, and many other ingredients added to some candies.
Chocolate originated in the Americas and was brought over to Europe. Although it was often originally combined with savoury items - especially chilli - European chocolate was generally made as a sweet item. Modern chocolate started coming into its own with the Industrial Revolution which changed the way chocolate was manufactured.
