National Eat a Peach Day

Posted on at

Today, August 22nd, is National Eat a Peach Day.

Peaches are stone fruits, or drupes, and have a single large seed - the stone - inside them. Peaches can be clingstones or freestones - in clingstones, the stone is attached to the flesh of the fruit and is hard to remove, whilst in freestones the opposite is true and the stone can be easily removed.

Peach flesh can be whitish or yellow and is usually firm in commercially grown peaches. White fleshed peaches tend to be sweeter than the yellow ones, as the latter have an acidic tang.
